Nissan Legacy and Quality
Although we are the newest Nissan dealership in Edmonton, we are proud to be a part of Nissan's century-long legacy of building quality vehicles. The history of Nissan started with the first DAT car made in 1914. The DAT Motorcar Company eventually began producing cars and trucks under the "Datson" brand at first, though it soon changed to "Datsun" instead. Eventually, DAT became part of a holding company named Nihon Sangyo, which was abbreviated as "Nissan" for the Tokyo Stock Exchange before officially becoming the Nissan Motor Company in 1934.
In the decades that followed, Nissan found success in Japan and decided to begin exporting its vehicles to other markets. While the manufacturer used the "Nissan" name at home, in other countries, it sold its models under the "Datsun" name. Here in Canada, a few independent dealerships began selling Datsun models in the early 1960s, but the brand did not really gain a foothold until it founded Nissan Automobile Canada in 1965, headquartered in Vancouver. By the end of the first year, more than 80 Datsun dealerships had opened across the country, and early models like the Datsun 510 and Datsun 1200 proved immediately popular.
The Oil Crisis of the 1970s pushed many drivers to look for fuel-efficient vehicles, and Datsun models were some of the most efficient on the road. In the decades that followed, they continued to grow in popularity amid numerous changes. Eventually, in the 1980s, the brand stopped using the "Datsun" name in export markets, and "Nissan" cars began selling here in Canada. Today, the Nissan lineup includes a fantastic selection of cars, trucks, and SUVs for a wide range of drivers. From reliable sedans and family-friendly SUVs to hard-working pickup trucks and even exciting off-road options, there is a Nissan model that can meet the needs of pretty much everyone.
