Plugging Into the Future: Meet the 2023 Nissan Ariya
How long is your daily commute? Think about the length of your commute and the number of miles you log on the odometer each week, from getting to and from work to running errands around town. Now, what if we told you that your search for a "Nissan dealer near me" could put more money in your wallet and get you behind the wheel of a stunning and innovative crossover?
Meet the Ariya. Making its debut in 2023, the all-new Ariya is Nissan’s first all-electric crossover SUV. It joins the best-selling LEAF in the Nissan lineup and blends everything you love about the Nissan brand with modern design details, features, and technology. As an EV, it’s also designed to save you money, making it the ideal crossover for commuters. Honestly, it’s perfect for anyone who loves to save money, and who doesn’t love that? Are you curious to know more? We thought so! Here’s everything you can expect from the money-saving, modern marvel that Nissan calls the Ariya.
#1 It’s Built on Nissan’s All-new EV Platform
The Ariya is the first EV in the Nissan lineup built on the automaker’s all-new dedicated EV platform known as CMF-EV. Why is this important? The CMF-EV platform optimizes every inch of available space in the Ariya, making for a stunning and spacious interior. For example, the electric powertrain is moved to the rear of the vehicle and allows the climate control system to take its place, giving you and your passengers more room in the cabin. The open floor plan is even more impressive with the adjustable centre console that you can move as needed.
#2 NASA-Inspired Seating
Driver fatigue has always been a concern in the automotive industry since it risks your safety behind the wheel. Nissan is one of the only automakers to actively work to mitigate this risk with their renowned Zero Gravity seating. After over a decade of research, Nissan discovered NASA astronauts experienced little muscle fatigue or discomfort because of the weightlessness of space. This discovery prompted the design of the Zero Gravity seat, which is an integral part of the Ariya’s design and your comfort behind the wheel.
#3 Electric Power You Won’t Believe
Nissan is renowned for high-performance legends like the Z. While the Ariya isn’t a sports car, it continues this legacy in a unique way. It proves an EV can be powerful and incredibly fun to drive across its six-trim lineup from the Engage, Evolve, and Venture to the Evolve+, Platinum+, and Premiere.
Nissan gives you a choice between a standard 63 kWh battery or an 87 kWh extended range battery, both of which are mated to an AC synchronous motor and are available with or without Nissan’s e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system. This combination determines the Ariya’s power. For example, the Ariya Engage with front-wheel-drive comes equipped with a 63 kWh battery that delivers a 346-km range, 214 horsepower, and 221 lb-ft of near-instant torque. The Ariya Evolve adds e-4ORCE all-wheel drive, pushing the Ariya’s capability to 335 horsepower, 413 lb-ft of near-instant torque, and a 330-km range.
The Ariya’s extended range battery is ideal for drivers who venture further out of town since it delivers a range of up to 482 kilometres on models like the Venture+. For the most horsepower and torque, the Ariya Platinum+ and Premiere answer the need for speed. These trims come standard with e-4ORCE and the 87 kWh battery, delivering 389 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of near-instant torque. For comparison, the 2023 Nissan Z's twin-turbo V6 churns out 400 horsepower, making the Ariya’s power truly remarkable for an all-electric crossover.
#4 Meet E-4orce: A New Way To Maintain Control
With power comes great responsibility in the driver’s seat. Because of this, Nissan ensures the Ariya delivers plenty of power and keeps you in control with innovative technology like the dual-motor, e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system. The system, inspired by the legendary GT-R’s torque split system and Nissan’s proven intelligent all-wheel-drive technology, ushers in a new era of capability and control.
Designed to give you all-wheel control in every driving condition, e-4ORCE relies on dual motors to manage the Ariya’s power delivery and braking performance. In doing this, the system constantly optimizes torque by independently controlling the brakes as needed. The result is a stable crossover that corners effortlessly, giving you the confidence you deserve when you’re behind the wheel.
#5 Parking Made Easy: North America’s First ProPILOT Park
Remember when we said that the Ariya takes everything you love about the Nissan lineup and makes it better? That’s the case with all-new features like ProPILOT Park. Building on Nissan’s intelligent technology system, ProPILOT Park eliminates the guesswork of parking the Ariya in any area. All you have to do is activate the system, and it will take over steering, acceleration, braking, and shifting gears to navigate the crossover into the designated spot.
#6 Smart Connectivity Wherever You Go
Your smartphone is a lifeline to your family, friends, hobbies, schedule, professional life, and more. It’s a rare occasion you leave home without it, so Nissan equips the Ariya with intuitive smartphone integration that keeps you connected and informed wherever the road leads. At the heart of this connectivity are a 31.24 cm instrument monitor and a 31.24 cm centre display that stretches across the front dashboard, giving you all the information you need within immediate view.
You'll have access to your smartphone via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, tools like Amazon Alexa, and an array of in-vehicle apps from the centre display. However, Nissan doesn't stop there and takes the Ariya's technology to the next level of customization. How? You can swipe information between screens for a custom view based on your current driving needs. Of course, the Ariya's head-up display adds to this view and is impressive as one of the largest full-colour displays in the segment.
#7 Safety Comes Standard
One of the many perks of owning a Nissan is knowing the automaker prioritizes your safety, whether you’re in a truck like the Frontier, an SUV like the Qashqai, or a sports car like the Z. The 2023 Ariya continues this trend with every trim in the lineup equipped with Nissan Safety Shield 360. An advanced suite of safety and driver-assist tools, the suite includes Blind Spot Warning, Intelligent Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Intelligent Emergency Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, High Beam Assist, and Lane Departure Warning. These tools work together to enhance your visibility and actively minimize the potential for collision.
Where Will You Go?
Have you heard? The future is electric, and while that may seem intimidating, Nissan has proven the transition is easy with best-selling models like the LEAF. The Ariya will soon join Nissan’s electric lineup and usher drivers into an era where EVs are affordable, sophisticated, innovative, powerful and, dare we say, fun to drive.
Don’t believe us? The Ariya’s 389-horsepower electric motor may not roar to life, but it can easily show you the adrenaline that comes from 442 lb-ft of near-instant torque that instantly accelerates the Ariya in the blink of an eye. So while it’s not a sports car, the Ariya certainly comes close, which says a lot for an all-electric crossover that gets plugged in each night to recharge.
